Project Advisory Board

James Bond, B.A. Psychology, M.A. in Education, is an eight-year U.S. Army veteran and an alumnus of National University. Mr. Bond went from leading soldiers as a non-commissioned officer to supporting military-affiliated students in community college as well as non-profit, for-profit, and Research 1 institutions. He is a recognized expert on military transitions, was instrumental in launching the National University Veteran Center, and is a board member of VetCTAP, a military non-profit that prepares transitioning service members for the civilian job market. He will serve as a guest lecturer for the NEH Discussion Leader preparatory program on homecoming and the role of the family in military-to-civilian transitions. He will also mentor discussion leaders on successful transitions from military to civilian life.

Robin Lockerby is the former Associate Director, Library Instruction and Special Projects, National University. As a member of the Advisory Board, Ms. Lockerby will assist with community outreach.

Ardeth Jayne Palma is User Engagement Librarian, Lead for Collaborative Learning Support & Programming, National University. Ms. Palma will oversee the development of project assets built at the National University Library and advise on the NEH Discussion Group.

Karla Payne is the Manager of the NU Veteran Center. She is a U.S. Navy veteran who works directly with veteran students at the university to facilitate their access to education and to support their educational goals. She will promote A Soldier’s Place: Veterans and Civilians Speaking about War to current and alumni veteran students and provide information on available resources to veteran participants as needed.

Gary J. Vorous M.A. Human Behavior, M.S. Executive Leadership, is a twenty-two-year veteran of the U.S. Navy (retired) and a graduate of National University and the University of San Diego. He is Immediate Past President of the National University Alumni Association and a member of the National University Student Veteran Organization (NUSVO), which provides opportunities for student-veteran professional development and leadership. He is committed to serving the nation’s veteran population.
