“Why did you apply?”
NEH Discussion Leaders serve as group facilitators for veterans and civilians who are interested in studying and understanding war. Each group builds an experience based on a set of shared reading and discussion topics. By fostering discussion within a small group setting, participants have a better chance at understanding the tough challenges that war presents in societies (past and present) and explore various avenues for thriving during adverse and favorable periods.

Dr. Henry Venter’s role for “A Soldier’s Place: Veterans and Civilians Speaking about War”
Dr. Henry Venter is a licensed psychologist who mentors the Discussion Leaders on how to help discussion-group participants talk through emotional issues, so the participants can process their feelings and feel more empowered about those issues.
